Think Twice Before You Bury

I just spent half a day with a few friends online sending them a bunch of images and links to some classic and funny places online. These included FPS Doug, Kerpal (you kicked my dog!), Peanut Butter Jelly Time, Photo With Flash/Photo Without Flash, and dozens of other things I recall from years ago, which, not only made me laugh then, but still make me laugh today.

My friends are just like you and me in many regards. They're in their early 30s, they play the occasional computer game, and they know their way around a PC or a Mac. On the other hand, they never quite spent as much time online as I did, so they actually don't know about a lot of these classic clips, images, jokes and memes. Most have never even heard of Digg. I managed to get a few of them to register, simply because I like to be able to share stuff with them "Hey, did you see that pic on Digg yesterday?"

When I'm on Digg, if I see a duplicate that made me laugh when I first saw it on Digg 637 days ago, I'll give it another digg, despite the few odd users that scream their comments: "Duplicate! Buried!". All I'm suggesting is to consider that most people (including your RL friends you've told Digg about) on Digg today were NOT members 2 years ago, and quite possibly, they have NOT seen the given article the first time it showed up.

I'm just asking the community to think twice before they bury a genuinely funny and classic submission. Go ahead and display your vast knowledge of the Internet and sure, let people know it's a dupe, but if you don't have to bury it for legitimate reasons, then don't do it.

As for the assholes who submit duplicates within minutes or hours of the original being posted, GTFO!
